What jobs can be done after the Technical Institute? What are the professional opportunities for new graduates in this area? After the start of the schools, thanks to the extraction and processing of data posted on the web related to the labor market, Wollybi managed to provide a cross-section of the employment of the new graduates of technical schools.
Registrations at the technical institute for the new year
What do the numbers related to the current high school enrollment tell us? The MIUR data on first-year students show an increase in the preferences of young people for high schools that, for the school year just started, collect 55.3% of those enrolled. Classical, scientific, linguistic high school, etc., are therefore the most popular. Therefore, the perception of families is that the group of high schools is still able to give greater preparation to the children and consequently more opportunities for their future.
The increase of students enrolled in high schools is compensated by the significant decrease of the choices of young people for professional institutions, while the share of members of technical schools remained almost constant over the last four scholastic years.
Now, lets’ look at the numbers provided by the Ministry of Education. Observing in detail the composition by address of study of members of technical institutes we see how the technological sector is constantly growing and prevailing compared to the economic one.

Technological technical institute: a school that helps finding a job
But let’s get to the most significant part. After obtaining the technical and technological diploma, after 5 years of studies, how is it possible to follow the professional life?
Surely the students can enroll at the University and obtain the degree if they want to. But, for those who want to enter the world of work, which are the only professional opportunities?
The European classification of the ESCO professions, used in WollyBi, identifies 9 professions of the group of Physical and Engineering Sciences technicians that may be of interest to the graduates of technical technological institutes.
From January 2014 to June 2018 there were over 160 thousand vacancies for this professional group.
In particular, over the past 12 months, over 40 thousand announcements have been published, with an increase of 40% compared to the period July 2014 – June 2015.
By analyzing the vacancies of the last year more closely, we can see how the most requested professions of the group are:
- Industrial designers with over 20 thousand vacancies
- Electronic technicians (about 6,500 vacancies)
- Mechanical technicians (more than 5 thousand vacancies)
Electro-technicians, chemical technicians, civil construction technicians and others belonging to the same group, register a less than 5,000 job vacancies in the last year.
In which region there are jobs for people with a technical-technological diploma
Although we can say today that the course of technical and technological studies is a type of diploma that allows you to find work, this does not happen in all the regions of the national territory.
Thanks to the analysis of Wollybi and to the algorithms that allow to qualify and classify the data related to job vacancies on the web, it is possible to have a cross-section also from the territorial point of view of the distribution of job opportunities.
The analysis of the territory makes it possible to see how job opportunities for graduates of technical technological institutes are mostly concentrated in Northern Italy, with Lombardy that alone collects more than 30% of the advertisements published on the web in the last 12 months.
Work experience: is it required?
Often, the new school graduates are discouraged in their job search because companies request for experience. In reality, for those who have achieved the technical and technological diploma, companies seem to be available to hire without the person having experience. Approximately 35% of the analyzed job advertisements reporting this information are aimed at workers with no experience and therefore for young graduates.
