Fourth industrial revolution and Industry 4 .0 are terms that have (almost) joined in the common language. But, how is the offer of new jobs dictated by this new opportunity to relaunch the Italian manufacturing industry today?
The WollyBi team, on the eve of the conclusion of the 18th edition of MECSPE at Parma Fiere, the biggest event dedicated to manufacturing industry and innovation promoted by Senaf, started a research to understand how the job adv about the professional figures on the web related to this area have changed in recent years.
Initially, when we talked about Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things, we were led to think of scenarios of the future in which the machines would have replaced man in the jobs.That’s true but only partially. Today the concept of Industry 4.0 is the natural evolution of technological thought. Industry 4.0 will increasingly replace the manual labor, allowing men to perform development and concept tasks.
However, young people have not yet managed to grasp this concept by considering the factory as an old place, belonging to the past, demotivating and aimed at tediously repetitive jobs. This is also revealed by research done by Mecspe at the last edition of Milano Digital Week.
New recruits see factory work as:
- tiring and manual (61%);
- little recognized socially (46%);
- repetitive, not very creative and which leaves little room for personal fulfilment (41%);
- in some cases, even a technologically backward place (30%).
Concepts that on the one hand can be true, but on the other hand, thanks to the work of all the actors involved in this process of change (companies, universities and institutions), they must be torn down so that the industrial growth of our country can record an ever-increasing growth.
So, we have on one hand the technological and industrial evolution that pushes more and more, and on the other hand young workers with a perception of the Italian industrial reality as dusty and under develop. Involved is also the Italian company that is slowly taking its first steps in the direction of the future, disrupting prejudices and understanding the ever-closer opportunity.
Evolution of Italian manufacturing to 4.0 Industry: the signals
There are positive signs that give us hope in the next evolution of the scenario described above.Thanks to the survey carried out by WollyBi on the status of job offers relating to figures in line with the evolution of Industry 4.0, we can see that there has been growth in the last 4 years of the search for crucial figures for the technological development of the Italian manufacturing system. First of all, it worth’s to note which are the most sought-after professional figures, as shown in figure number 1. From system administrators to analysts, from manufacturing industry executives to those in the research and development sector, but especially software developers, it is about figures that have nothing to do with the old image of the worker sitting on the assembly line.
But it is the variation of the percentage between 2014 and 2018 that stands out as the change takes place. Engineering specialists are sought after at 183.4% more than in 2014 and mechanical technicians, with a highly specialized profile, have undergone a positive change of 294.7%.
In short, we are witnessing a real evolution in the Italian manufacturing sector, a change that, even if it doesn’t seem apparent,performing a deep analysis, is taking important steps forward.
